Are we truly receiving the right education, or are we simply memorizing for exams? It seems that education today focuses more on rote learning than on meaningful understanding. But can this approach really prepare us for life? Surely, we can’t carry a report card everywhere or rely on a 9 CGPA to navigate real-world challenges.
The true essence of education lies in developing critical thinking and gaining knowledge, not just securing marks. Unfortunately, many students, as well as parents, are fixated on being “toppers,” often overlooking the importance of genuine learning. But is it realistic for every child to be the best? Certainly not.
What I’ve learned is this: don’t pursue something you don’t believe in. Avoid comparisons. Instead, focus on understanding what you study. By doing so, you’ll naturally move away from rote memorization and develop a habit of learning something new every day.
While marks are important for milestones like selecting a stream in 11th grade, securing college admissions, or pursuing higher studies, they are not the sole measure of your talent or potential. Marks assess your ability to answer specific questions, not your overall capabilities.
So yes, aim for good grades—they’re essential for academic progression. But don’t let them define you. Balance your focus between achieving high marks and cultivating critical thinking. Ultimately, it’s the knowledge and skills you acquire that will pave the way for success
